Magtie began with a moment: our founder John's wedding day.
That morning, standing in front of the mirror, all he could see looking at his pre-tied bowtie was that it looked…off. Not just slightly off. Distractingly off.
The more he looked around, the more he noticed it on everyone else too. Every groomsman. Every guest. Same fake, floppy pre-tied bow tie.
He tried to ignore it. But when he got the photos back, he couldn’t take his eyes off of it. Like something stuck in your teeth—you can’t unsee it.
That’s when he decided he wasn’t going to let that happen again.
Most pre-tied bowties are basically the same thing: thin fabric pinched into shape and held together to look like a knot. They’re not really tied, and they don’t really look like it either.
He spent the next few years working on a better solution. With a technical background working in the biotech & robotics space, he approached it like a design problem: how do you make a bowtie that actually looks hand-tied, but doesn’t require you to know how to tie one?
What he wanted was simple:
